What to expect
The exam is comprised of 120 total questions (100 scored, 20 unscored pretest) with 160 minutes (2 hours 40 minutes) to complete it and no scheduled breaks — a noticeably tighter pace per question than many other PMI exams. Questions are grounded in the CPMAI methodology's six phases (from matching AI to business needs through operationalizing the solution), so expect scenario questions about data readiness, model governance, and responsible-AI judgment calls rather than pure AI/ML theory.
How to prepare
Unlike most certification exams, you can't simply self-study and sit for PMI-CPMAI: completing the official 21-hour PMI-CPMAI Exam Prep Course is a prerequisite to schedule the exam at all, and that course and the exam are purchased together. PMI also offers a free introductory e-learning module and a PMI-CPMAI practice exam built by subject matter experts as additional prep once you're enrolled.
