ALEKS Math Study Tips: Domain-by-Domain Prep Strategies

September 14, 2026

Pre-Algebra & Arithmetic

Refresh fraction operations (adding, subtracting, multiplying with unlike denominators), percentage calculations, and order of operations first — these fundamentals show up embedded inside more advanced algebra and geometry questions, so shoring them up has a multiplying effect on your overall performance.

Algebra

Practice solving linear equations, simplifying expressions with distribution and combining like terms, and factoring basic quadratics until each feels automatic. Since ALEKS is adaptive, strong performance here can move you into more advanced algebra content, so it's worth practicing past the bare minimum rather than stopping once basic equations feel comfortable.

Geometry & Functions

Review area, perimeter, and volume formulas for common shapes, the Pythagorean theorem, and basic coordinate geometry (distance and midpoint). Also make sure you can quickly identify function types (linear vs. quadratic) from their equations, since this comes up in both the geometry-adjacent and algebra-adjacent portions of the assessment.
